Certified Nurses Aide, CNA
The CNA is certified by the State of Connecticut to provide hands on, personal care and any supportive services necessary to maintain the physical and emotional comfort of the ill or physically challenged client. The aide will do everything possible to create a happy, cheerful home environment being careful not to change the standards set up by you and your family members. They will also be sensitive to the social relations and culture values of our clients.
Functions of the Aide
- Assist patient in and out of bed
- Assist with transfers
- Assist patient with personal hygiene
- Rub patients back
- Assist patient with the use of a bedpan and/or urinal
- Assist patient with dressing and undressing
- Encourage active exercise when appropriate
- Present and observe patient taking oral medications prescribed by the physician, provided it has been pre-poured by a family member or RN
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment

- Assist in promoting mental alertness of patient though conversation and participation in games and other appropriate activates
- Prepare nutritious meals, serve meals, and assist with feeding if necessary
- Change bed linen and perform light housekeeping chores such as dishes, light dusting, and personal laundry
- Monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations
- Assist patient with transfers (Hoyer Lift, etc.) hot packs and whirlpool; under the directions and supervision of the Physical Therapist
- Assist patient and family with any supportive devices he/she has in the home, such as an electric bed, wheelchair, cane or crutches
